Kunshan CDC is a national health department approved in the establishment of a set of medical, clinical, preventive, health care, and scientific research in a center of health and disease prevention. The Kunshan CDC provides a center to conduct occupational health testing, environmental testing, and other comprehensive public disease and control prevention projects. The center is engaged in the basic public health services of public welfare institutions.
GLHLTH302 Social Determinants of Health: The purpose of the trip was to provide students with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in learning more about how social determinants affect specific populations in certain geolocations, which was a part of the course objectives. While biological determinants are essential to understanding health, one cannot overlook how social determinants and institutions of health can impact a population’s well-being. Students visited the Kunshan CDC to improve this understanding, viewing how a professional organization works to address health issues and the policies that guide and lie beneath their actions.
PUBPOL 101/PUBPOL304 Intro to Policy Analysis/Microeconomic Policy Tools: Students were exposed to the real world problems policymakers face, which helped the students get started thinking about their signature work topics. Health and public policy are intimately intwined despite common beliefs, and students benefitted from this visit by seeing firsthand how a national health department operates and the policies that guide one.
