The Vacuum Interconnected Nano-X Research Facility is the largest multifunctional research platform in the world for nano-science and nanotechnology, integrating the state-of-art capabilities of material growth, device fabrication, and characterization/tests together under one ultra-high vacuum environment. The Nano-X Research Facility utilizes various functional instruments in material productions, device fabrications, and characterizations. By connecting different instruments to ultra-high vacuum pipelines, NANO-X aims to solve residual particles, surface/interface oxides and absorptions, and other contaminations problems, which are intractable in conventional cleanrooms.
PHYS 101 Frontiers of 21st Century Physics: Students were provided with direct impressions about a state-of-art research facility related to the course. They additionaly got to explore some of the frontiers of research in the material sciences.
PHYS 201 Optics and Modern Physics: Students gained direct experience about the modern facilities that are used to fabricate and characterize functional materials. Students additionally addressed and learned how principles of modern physics were used to build these facilities and how they are used to develop new materials today.
