Pavilion of Surging Waves 沧浪亭

The Pavilion of Surging Waves has the longest history of all existing classical gardens in Suzhou. The Pavilion of Surging Waves, the Lion Grove, the Humble Administrator’s Garden, and the Liuyuan Garden are the four oldest gardens in Suzhou from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The scenery is natural and the architecture is simple and elegant, embodying urban mountains and forests.

Field Trip Information

MEDIART 101 Introduction to Media and the Arts: To introduce the students architectural design of the museum, the visit to the pavilion focused on its design an layout. Similar objects of interest such as artifacts and classical architecture pieces were on display for students to analyze and tie to the historical use of architecture and gardens as alternative expressive forms of art.
