Shanghai Film Museum is a museum in Shanghai, located at 595 North Caoxi Road in Xuhui District. The exhibition area is 15,000 square meters. Combining interaction, observation, and experience, Shanghai Film Museum possesses a host of events like film culture activities, historical relic collection, academic research, social education, and exhibitions. The museum contains 4 main exhibition units and as well as its own art cinema.
GCHINA203 Visual China: Modern Chinese history and culture through film: Visual China is a 200-level history course of modern China since the late 19th century. The unique method of teaching the course through this trip combined historical learning with filmic appreciation and analysis. As Shanghai was the hub of China’s film production in the 20th century and many Classical Chinese language films were produced in Shanghai and housed in the Shanghai Film Museum. The field trip benefited students in the class with more extensive knowledge and hands-on experiences to understand history of Chinese films and appreciation of filmic representations of history.
